517 Gallery operates under the umbrella of the Denison Arts Council, a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to the promotion, development, and support of the arts in the North Texas area in order to serve the needs of all citizens through participation, exposure, and educational opportunities.

Doc Holiday Festival
Saturday, April 26 | 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
In collaboration with the City of Denison the Denison Arts Council sponsors the Artists Village at the SNAP Center, consisting of Demonstrating artists and a Kids Korner. Artists will portray a variety of period specific art forms such as Painting, pottery, fabric arts, calligraphy and making musical instruments. The Kids Korner features activities for children and adults.
North Texas Art Festival
May 17, 10 AM-5 PM | May 18, 10 AM-3 PM | Katy Depot
Denison Arts Council is proud to announce the third annual North Texas Arts Festival, this time for two days at the Katy Depot in historic Downtown Denison, TX. Juried local, regional, and national artists will display and sell their work. Various artist demonstrations will be held, as well as local musicians performing a variety of music throughout the day. This is a family friendly event, open to the public.

Dumpster Painting
The Denison Arts Council and City of Denison invites proposals to paint dumpsters in the alleys of the Denison Cultural Art District. The dumpster project is part of the Activate the Alleys with a goal to beautify the Alleys in the District as well as encourage the public to use alternate entrances to the businesses on Main Street.
The dumpsters are public art and must be “family friendly”. Applicants can be Individual artists or teams. The City of Denison will prepare the Dumpster for painting, these are recycled dumpsters that will continue to be used for their original purpose of trash collection. The dumpster is the property of the City of Denison.
Saturday, November 1 at Forest Park
Experience the vibrant magic of Dia de los Muertos! Denison Arts and Culture District and the City of Denison Tourism Department present the 13th annual Dia de los Muertos Festival! Join us November 1st for a day filled with Music, Dance, Puppets, Parades and Beautiful Horses. Festival includes Main Stage entertainment starting at 10:00. Come watch Folkloric Dancers, Mariachi Bands and Aztec Dancers. Shop at the Mercado and enjoy fabulous food from vendors from Tacos, BBQ, and Corndogs.! Main Stage Headliners include the CTS Queen of Tejano Tribute Band, the Outstanding DFW Caballos Bailadores Dancing Horses and the Gabby’s Car Show. Weekend ticketed events include Party with the Puppets on Friday, Saturday evening is the La Catrina Gala and then Sunday El Princesses Brunch! Don’t miss out on these festivities in historic downtown Denison Historic District.
Second Saturday Art Receptions
4-6 PM on the second Saturday of each month at 517 Gallery
517 Gallery’s monthly reception events always come with free food & wine, but the art and the activities we host are always changing! Each art exhibition has 2 or more reception events to make sure you don’t miss out, and each event features something special to do or see. This might be an artist talk, a demo, or a live performance.
