Vibrant Visuals Art Exhibition
By: Jennifer Branson
Vibrant Visuals is a dynamic art exhibition currently at 517 Gallery. True to its name, the show celebrates color in exciting ways. Vibrant Visuals features a wide range of artworks from local artists and reflects unique viewpoints and artistic styles. With over fifty different pieces on display, the exhibition includes a rich mix of art forms. These forms include bold paintings, compelling photographs, detailed collages, and thought-provoking sculptural wall pieces.
Furthermore, each piece not only adds to the lively atmosphere of the exhibit but also tells its own story. The pieces invite viewers to think about the connection between color and emotions in art. Indeed, this exhibit is a spectacular collection of pieces in which artists interpret and harness the expressive potential of color in strikingly different ways.
Meet the Artists of the Vibrant Visuals Exhibition
Stephenie Anderson‘s five pieces in Vibrant Visuals use a thought-provoking mix of empty space and fine details. This strategy allows viewers to think deeply about the balance of the pieces. Each piece shows her skill in balancing negative space and ornate details, using what is not there as much as what is there. This careful choice creates a lively tension, inviting the audience to discover the emotion and nuance in her work.

Jason Falls brings a special kind of excitement to Vibrant Visuals with five artworks that show his unconventional way of making art. Two of these pieces stand out because of their large size. They pull the viewer into Falls’s fascinating world right away. All five pieces use unusual methods, making viewers curious and amazed as they try to understand the “how” behind each artwork.
Those who want to learn more about Falls’s art are welcome to join his artist talk at 517 Gallery on Saturday, March 8th. This talk will happen during the monthly reception from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. It promises to give insights into Falls’s work, explaining his detailed processes and the various inspirations that drive his creativity.
Recognized for her signature use of vibrant, high-contrast color, Erin Day Williamson‘s work became a touchstone for the Vibrant Visuals exhibition. Since her work is so perfectly aligned with the show’s theme, Williamson was invited to showcase an unprecedented ten pieces. This exceeds the gallery’s customary limit of five artworks per artist. Her distinct style was already familiar to the gallery committee which immediately made her a natural fit for the exhibition. The decision to feature an expanded selection of Williamson’s work reflects the deep impact of her bold, creative talent. Her artwork promises a visually compelling experience that highlights the power of color in its most dynamic form.
Sandra Deanda offers an intriguing counterpoint in Vibrant Visuals by skillfully using pastel colors. Most of her artworks use soft shades, but she shows that these gentle colors can be just as fascinating as brighter ones. One striking exception is a large artwork that stands out with strong, bold colors. What makes Deanda’s work unique is her ability to create tension between seemingly opposite concepts. Sweet and dark elements exist together in her art, creating a complex visual adventure for viewers. This careful balance takes people on a captivating journey that makes them think about what they see and how they feel. It exemplifies how brightness is not simply about bold, saturated colors.
Jimmy Hackney leaves a strong impression on visitors at the gallery with one artwork in Vibrant Visuals. This piece is an unusual mixed-media painting-assemblage titled Yahoo the Chicken. Hackney’s work exhibits his unique artistic style of turning found and recycled materials into a fascinating piece of art. By using unconventional materials, Hackney encourages viewers to rethink what art can be. Yahoo the Chicken demonstrates Hackney’s talent — showing how everyday objects can be transformed and made into a stunning and thought-provoking piece of art.
A Peek into Exhibition Design
Another element of an art exhibition is how it is designed to flow in the gallery’s space. This design acts as a key connection between the artwork and the people who come to see it. A well-planned and interesting exhibition goes beyond just showing art. It turns the gallery into a lively space that improves the visitor’s experience.
Therefore, careful planning, how the space is arranged, lighting, and extra materials all work together in an exhibition. They tell a story, create emotions, and give background information about the art. An exhibition that is designed with imagination encourages people to stay longer and connect with the artwork in a more meaningful way.
As a result, an impactful exhibition can facilitate art’s ability to challenge viewers’ thinking and start discussions. This creates lasting memories. And it helps the gallery become known as an important place for culture and appreciation of art. The Vibrant Visuals exhibition’s installation philosophy was thoughtfully put together in the aforementioned way. Denison Arts Council’s L Williams, a gallery administrator, explained how the show was meticulously designed to have the greatest impact.
“I handled the setup of Vibrant Visuals with lots of help from our gallery director and one of our amazing volunteers. Our white wall, on the left side upon a visitor’s entry to the gallery, features highly-textured pieces, broken up by simpler artworks in between to create a balanced level of detail. This works in conjunction with the “wavy” arrangement of pieces along the wall to lead the eye and create a smooth, fluid path of viewing. The show’s largest artworks are on this wall.
“Our brick wall towards the back of the gallery houses a series of artworks with painterly brush strokes and heavy use of solid black negative space that makes the highly-saturated colors of the subject matter pop intensely. The artworks come from several different artists, but the colors serendipitously matched very well.
“Our slat wall immediately to the right of the entrance features a mix of medium and small pieces with light and dreamlike colors on one half and more intense flag reds and ultramarine blues on the other. The halves are separated by two larger artworks that feature a healthy balance of both.
“Our back panel is decorated with small-scale yet attention-drawing artworks that invite the viewer to a more intimate experience with the works as they draw in close to view the minute details.
“All walls of the gallery share a mosaic-inspired spatial distribution of the artworks, with the verticality of the pieces undulating to form waves that lead the viewer’s eyes around the space.”
Exciting Updates at 517 Gallery
