As a child, Alexis Taylor viewed coloring inside the lines as a stifling limitation that she resisted. She believed in embracing life to the fullest, a challenge considering her petite height of just 5 feet. However, on the dance floor, Alexis was determined that her small size wouldn’t prevent her from shining; she was there to occupy space and ensure everyone in the back had a good view! This empowering belief remains steadfast.

After earning a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of North Texas, Alexis swapped her crayons for a lab coat, working as a Research and Development Chemist at Ruco Polymers and later at Sherwin Williams, where she created vibrant powder coatings and even some enchanting color-shifting products. When it came time to comply with California’s Proposition 65, she took a leap into the Environmental field, journeying from Houston to Nigeria and back to North Texas as she decided to pursue an MBA to elevate her career.

Throughout high school, college, and graduate school, Alexis continued to dance and take art classes, believing that life without a creative outlet is like a cake without frosting! This artistic passion sparked an innovative business idea: she blended graffiti quilts with weighted blankets for those with sensory needs. Business thrived until the pandemic disrupted everything, requiring her to pivot! Although she cherished being her own boss, she discovered her rhythm in consulting and economic development, reaching a broader audience and helping businesses flourish.

In 2022, Alexis relocated to Denison to immerse herself in the lively community. She promptly joined the Denison Art Council Volunteer Group. While she still enjoys painting, her last public dance performance was in June 2019—finding an adult dance troupe has proven as elusive as catching a unicorn! After selling a few sewing machines to manage pandemic expenses, she’s eager to service the rest and address the growing pile of UFOs (unfinished objects). For now, her focus is on giving back to the Texoma Area; with the art industry generating a trillion dollars annually, supporting over 5 million jobs, and enhancing community identity—it’s truly an endeavor worth fostering and expanding!

Born and raised in Denison and Pottsboro, Jessica (Grimes) Gissler brings a wealth of vision and experience to her seat as Treasurer of Denison Arts Council. Between the ages of 18 to 31, Jessica moved around sampling much of what life has to offer while studying Finance and Entrepreneurship in Stillwater, Oklahoma, and International Business in London.

She started her career in accounting in South Florida, Maryland, and Atlanta before returning home to Denison, Texas to raise her son surrounded by family. Her home and office are filled with art from her travels and any loud, bright treasures she couldn’t live without! She trends toward the maximalist style, seeing any empty wall space (and often floors and ceilings as well) as possible opportunities to display her favorite pieces. She hopes to expand her philosophy of “Life is a gallery” to the entire city, filling the walls, streets and windows with inspiring and beautiful art!

Jessica owns Balancing + Act, offering an elevated bookkeeping and business consulting experience to local and nationwide clientele located in the heart of downtown.
